Why I like Dusty Springfield?

Sometimes people find it weird that I like Dusty Springfield so much. I’ve finally come to the realisation that I do have the answer to that. 

I think she’s the window to all the great sounds from before my time. Through her I’ve been introduced to great musicians like Burt Bacharach, Jacques Brel, The Carpenters, The Rascals, just to name a few. I’ve discovered music that doesn’t age, but stay fresh forever, through her.

So yeah, as cliche as it may sound, that’s it.

WWYD — What Would Yasmin Do?

So someone posted a video of kids mocking a muslim ritual on Facebook, apparently from way back but I’ve just seen it for the first time.

In handling things like this, we should ask ourselves, WWYD — What would Yasmin (Ahmad) do?

I think, if she’s still with us today she would say something like this: “No. What they did was not out of compassion and love. But we should treat everyone, especially a child, with compassion and love.”

And then, she would make more wonderful overtly pessimistic films.
